Peter W. Cardon

In today’s competitive job market, it’s essential to have a solid foundation of communication skills and principles. Whether it’s addressing a large audience or conveying a message to a small group, communication skills play a crucial role in your career success. “Business and Professional Communication,” (PDF) written by Peter Cardon and Kory Floyd, brings valuable experience from the business world to help students learn how to apply communication skills in real-life situations.

This comprehensive textbook covers all the essential theories, concepts, and skills needed to master the art of communication effectively. Each chapter features “People First,” which presents students with challenging scenarios and teaches effective strategies to navigate them successfully. This approach enables students to develop concrete skills for maintaining healthy relationships with colleagues, clients, and coworkers.

What sets this book apart from others is its dedicated chapter on perspective-taking, covering the critical aspects of person-perception, self-serving bias, fundamental attribution error, common perceptual errors, self-concept, and image management. By understanding and paying attention to the perspectives of others, students learn how to build strong relationships in their professional lives.

Another unique feature of this textbook is its chapter on career communication, motivating students to engage in networking activities and consider the priorities and points of view of others as they seek to advance their careers.
