About The Author

Paul Zeitz

Paul Zeitz

Professor Paul Zeitz studied history at Harvard and received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the UC, Berkeley. He currently is an associate professor at the University of San Francisco. Paul won the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO) and was a member of the first American team to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 1974. Since 1985, Professor Zeitz has edited and composed problems for several national mathematics contests, including the USAMO and helped train several American IMO teams, most notably the 1994 "Dream Team" which, for the first time in history, achieved a perfect score. In 2003, he received the Deborah Tepper Haimo award, a national teaching award for university and college mathematics, given by the Math Association of America.

Paul Zeitz’s The Art and Craft of Problem Solving 3rd Edition is a math book that emphasizes problem-solving approaches instead of traditional exercises. It is a great resource for independent learners as well as college-level majors. The book aims to develop strong problem-solving skills by encouraging mathematics students to practice math instead of just studying it. Based on his extensive experience as a coach for the International Math Olympiad, Zeitz provides students with a deeper understanding of mathematics and the ability to investigate and solve complex problems.
