About the Author

Chia-Shun Yih (1918 – 1997), was a renowned Stephen P. Timoshenko Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan. He was a highly inspiring teacher, and his students praised him for his contagious enthusiasm and excitement for the subject. Chia-Shun Yih has published many scientific articles in his lifetime and authored two books; Fluid Mechanics: A Concise Introduction to the Theory and Dynamics of Nonhomogeneous Fluids and later revised as Stratified Flows. He has received several awards, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Award (Germany), the Theodore von Karman Medal (Amer. Soc. of Civil Engineers), the Henry Russel Lectureship (University of Michigan), the Stephan S. Attwood Award (Univ. of Michigan), the Fluid Dynamics Prize (Amer. Physical Soc.), and the Otto Laporte Award (APS).
