About The Author

Eugene F. Brigham

Professor Eugene F. Brigham is Graduate Research Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, where he has been teaching since 1971. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina and his MBA and Ph.D. from the University of California-Berkeley. Prior to joining the University of Florida, Dr. Eugene held teaching positions at the University of Wisconsin, the University of Connecticut, and the University of California-Los Angeles. A former president of the Financial Management Association, Brigham has written many journal articles on the cost of capital, capital structure and other aspects of financial management. He has co-authored or authored ten textbooks on managerial economics and managerial finance that are used at more than 1,000 universities in the United States and have been translated into 11 languages around the world. In addition to his academic writing, Eugene continues to consult, teach and complete research. He has served as a consultant to many government agencies and corporations, including the Federal Reserve Board, the U.S. Office of Telecommunications Policy, the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, and the RAND Corp., and he has testified as an expert witness in numerous gas, electric and telephone rate cases at both state and federal levels. Professor Brigham spends his spare time on the golf course, enjoying time with his dogs and family, and tackling outdoor adventure activities.

Joel F. Houston

Dr. Joel F. Houston is the 'Eugene F. Brigham' Professor of Finance at the University of Florida. He got his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Wharton School at UPenn and his BA degree from Franklin and Marshall College. Prior to his appointment at the University of Florida, Joel was an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. His primary research in the areas of corporate finance and financial institutions. Dr. Houstan's work has been published in top journals including Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Business, The Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research and Financial Management, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.

Since arriving at the University of Florida in 1987, Joel has received over 26 teaching awards and has been actively involved in both graduate and undergraduate education. In addition to co-authoring leading textbooks in financial management, he has participated in management education programs for the World Bank/PURC Program, Exelon Corporation, Southern Company, and Volume Services America.
